Veterinarian

Dr. Matt Gumbrell

Raised in Christchurch, Matt started with a science degree in zoology before going to vet school where he graduated with distinction in 1993. Most of his career has been treating companion animals.

The exceptions have been two years in mixed animal practice in England and a fascinating 18 months in Mongolia as a veterinary volunteer. His role there saw him training Mongolian vets both in medicine and surgery of both small and farm animals.

He returns there regularly. He enjoys the great variety and constant technical challenges of being a vet and has a particular interest in cancer treatment.

Matt and wife Nicky live in Tindalls Bay and have three adult children, Mr Bingley and Manny (therapy dogs), and a fluffy cat with lots of attitude. Outside of work, Matt dabbles in lots of outdoor pursuits from windsurfing and paddleboarding to alpine climbing and trail running.
